Escaped rehab patient, child found in Texas

A woman who left from a court-ordered rehabilitation center taking her infant son with her in early April has been captured in Texas.

Franklin County Courthouse officials said Khristina Wheeler, 20, whose hometown is Haleyville but has recently been living in Russellville, was arrested in Galveston, Texas, after authorities received a tip on her whereabouts.

Investigators said Wheeler’s mother, Mary Susan Camp, and 5-week-old infant son were also at the residence in Texas when authorities arrived.

Authorities said Wheeler is currently being held at the Galveston City Jail until she can be extradited back to Franklin County.

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said his office is working closely with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office and authorities in Galveston, Texas to arrange the transfer.

Franklin County Sheriff’s office investigators said Wheeler has a long history of drug use and was actually arrested back in November 2009 on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Court documents indicate Wheeler was placed in the rehab program in January before the child was born.

The infant child is currently staying with friends and family.
