Edward Hurn McCollum

Edward Hurn McCollum, 87, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at Mitchell Hollingsworth.
He graduated from Stetson University and Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He pastored churches in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 19 and a half years where he was known as "Preacher."
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2010 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ralton McCarley and Rev. Phillip Potter officiating. Interment was at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Dot McCollum, of Florence; sons, Glenn McCollum and wife, Norma, of Athens, and Dan McCollum and wife, Debbie, of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Lou Ann Beasley and husband, Wayne, of Florence; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren and nephews. Honorary pallbearers were fellow ministers.

Odell May, 69, of Haleyville passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 1, 2010 at Akins Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Cummings officiating. Interment was in Union Hill Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Rebecca May; parents, Edd and Lona McGuire May; sister, Catherine Cummings; and brothers, Huey and Gene May.
He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Aundriea Price, Ann Welborn and husband, Gary, and Mary May; sister, Shelia Pinkard; brother, Thomas May and wife, Frances; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

R.C. Beard, 69, of Russellville passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at Akins Funeral Home with Bro. Raymond Martin officiating. Interment was in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ruben and Melzoria Franks Beard; and brother, Willard Beard.
He leaves to cherish his memory brothers, William Beard, Raymond Beard and wife, Shirley, Hershel Beard and wife, Rose Mary; three nephews; and two nieces.
Walter Daniel Mitchell

Walter Daniel Mitchell, 86, of Russellville passed away on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 1, 2010 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Flaherty and Bro. Chris Contreras officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery on Waterloo Road.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Maude Mitchell; brothers, Louis Mitchell and Leonard Mitchell; and sisters, Viola Taylor, Leota Fuller, Lilly McClellan and Lilly McNatt.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Lou Mitchell; daughter, Glenda Mitchell; step-son, Rick Contreras; grandchildren, Tina Bolton, Chris Contreras, Sabin Contreras and Lemar Darty; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers were Ty Bolton, Lemar Darty, Donnie Pruitt, Eugene Martin, Tony Landers, John Darty, Sabin Contreras and Chris Contreras.
He was a janitor at West Elementary School in Russellville for years.

Alpha O'Dean Files Smoot, 69, of Russellville passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at her residence.
The burial was Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at Lawler Cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Roger Lingelbach, Theresa Kennedy, Loretta Meeder and husband, Ramone, Tina Hiatt and husband, Peter, Michael Lingelbach and Juanita Calhoun and husband, Billy; grandchildren, John Kennedy, Michelle Hiatt, Matthew Lingelbach, Jessica Lingelbach, Crystal Wimberley, Jason Lingelbach, William Glen Slay, Jr., Gregory Jamison, Kimberly Calhoun, Christopher Calhoun, Jeremiah Calhoun, Heather Calhoun, Samuel Calhoun and Sarah Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Alayah N. Guess, Hayden Parker, Keagan Wimberley, James Terry and Gabriel Slay; siblings, Eugene Files, Leon Files and Stella Beish; and several nieces and nephews.

Dolfais Wilburn Baker, 76, of Bear Creek passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at his residence. He was retired from the mobile home transit business. He was a member of South Haleyville Church of God.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Royce Brimer officiating. Burial was in Shady Gove Cemetery in Phil Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brimer Baker; children, Sandra Pike and husband, Ricky, Regina Cleghorn and husband, Carlos, and Kim Tittle and husband, Mike; sister, Nancy Hulsey and husband, Jerry; brothers, Clyde Baker and wife, Faye, James Baker and wife, Lorene, and Ken Baker and wife, Carolyn; grandchildren, Dusti Haley and husband, Steven, Chris Pike and wife, Megan, Tina Yocum, Corey Yocum and Dylan Tittle; and great-grandchildren, Farrah and Brooklyn Haley.
He was preceded in death by parents, Dolfais and Gracie Lee Baker; and brother, Billy Jack Baker.

Robert N. Stiles, Sr., 78, of Haleyville passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Ala. He was retired from Winston Furniture and a member of Bear Creek No. 1 Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 1, 2010 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with George Jones officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Nuckols Stiles; children, Robert N. Stiles, Jr., Chester R. Stiles and wife, Margie, and Douglas E. Stiles; sister, Celia Travis; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams and husband, Curits, Mary Compton and Pat Cook, Josh Stiles, Ray Compton, Erica Stiles and Stephen Stiles; great-grandchildren, Auburn N. Cook, Aaron W. Dunaway, Kinzley M. Stiles and Cooper R. Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Jesse Abner and Della Louvisis Stiles; son, Bobby Stiles; six brothers; and three sisters.
