Times set to run candidate profiles

By Staff
Jonathan Willis
With Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott’s recent announcement that he will not seek another term in office, there has been much speculation about those interested in filling his seat.
Plott has served as sheriff since 1982.
There have been whispers of those who may enter the race, but as of now only a couple have qualified to run.
The Franklin County Republican Executive Committee issued a press release indicating that Leighton police chief Ray Hayse had filed his qualifying papers.
Longtime former district attorney’s investigator and current Phil Campbell Police Sgt. Terrell Potter has announced plans to run on the Democratic ticket. The Democratic Party will begin qualifying 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 13 in the large courtroom at the courthouse and will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 2, just prior to the party’s banquet at the A.W. Todd Center.
Offices up for grabs this year includes sheriff, coroner and school board seats for district two and four. State level offices on the ballot include district attorney, state senator and state representative.
District Attorney Joey Rushing, Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow and Sen. Roger Bedford have all qualified on the Democratic ticket.
As has been custom in the past, The Franklin County Times will once again publish candidate announcements as they are turned in.
The letters can be mailed to P.O. Box 1088, Russellville, AL 35653, dropped off at the FCT office located at 14131 U.S. 43 in Russellville or they can be emailed to jonathan.willis@fct.wpengine.com. Candidates are encouraged to submit photos as well.
The announcements should be 250-300 words and contain basic information such as the candidate’s name, age, address, phone number, current position, experience and what they hope to bring to the office they are running for.
The announcements will run as they are submitted. No announcements will run after April 17.
