Officials want board accountability

By Staff
Nathan Strickland
RED BAY- The Red Bay City Council passed an ordinance Monday that will hold people who have joined certain boards and committees accountable.
A motion was approved Monday night establishing a new rule for all city boards and committees.
The ruling gives members of each board and committee three unexcused absences for each year. The council stated that anyone who is unable to follow this rule would be subject for replacement.
Council member Charlene Fancher said she has seen attendance decline at meetings.
Council member Brad Bolton agreed and said some committee and board meetings are being scheduled at bad times.
The council also discussed funds that were being relayed to certain boards and committees.
The city council decided to move forward on construction of the new Red Bay Heritage Park that will be an extension of Bay Tree Park in the middle of town. The council also gave permission to Matt’s Militia and the Red Bay cheerleaders to set up roadblocks to raise money for Relay for Life and trips scheduled for the Red Bay cheer squads.
The occupational tax ordinance for the city will be discussed at the next city council meeting scheduled for Monday, Feb.1 at 7 p.m.
