Red Bay tops Belgreen 43-31

BELGREEN -The Belgreen seventh-and-eighth-grade girls team started strong during the finals of the Franklin County Junior High Basketball Tournament, but it was Red Bay that finished strong and claimed the title with a 43-31 victory.
Belgreen ended the first quarter with a 9-2 run and Red Bay opened the second quarter with a 7-1 run. By halftime the Lady Bulldogs were clinging to a one-point lead.
Red Bay took control in the third quarter by gaining scoring first to take the lead and extending its advantage to 33-26 by the end of the quarter.
Abbi Griffin led the Lady Tigers with 12 points while Carlee Berry added 11 points. Hannah McKinney scored six, Jade Faulkner and Kloie Mills scored four points each and Katlyne Hiser scored three points for Red Bay.
Hannah Taylor scored a game-high 14 points for Belgreen while Laken Beasley scored 12. Also scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Jessica Howard with four points and Courtney DeVaney with one point.

Red Bay earned a spot in the finals by dominating the first half to cruise past the Lady Bobcats 46-17 Saturday.
The Lady Tigers took a 23-6 lead into halftime and never looked back.
Griffin scored a game-high 20 points for Red Bay while Berry added 10 points. Also scoring for the Lady Tigers were Hiser (8), Mills (5) and Faulkner (5).
Vickie McAlister led the Lady Bobcats with 12 points while Liz King and Cassidy Karr added two points each and Kaylie Ayers scored one point.
Belgreen 26,
Vina 16
Belgreen built an early lead and kept Vina at bay during the second half to Saturday to earn a 26-16 victory and advance to the finals.
Beasley led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points while Lacey Oliver scored eight. Lynsi Bragwell added four points and Taylor scored two points.
Morgan Humphres led the Lady Red Devils with nine points while Evelyn Swinney added five points and Emily Emerson scored two points.
