Red Bay rolls early in win against Phil Campbell

BELGREEN – Red Bay scored early and often to build a 12-1 lead by the end of the first quarter on its way to a 53-29 victory against sixth-seeded Phil Campbell during the opening round of the Franklin County Junior High Basketball Tournament.
Phil Campbell found a little bit of scoring rhythm in the second quarter, but the third-seeded Tigers were able to answer and push their lead to 28-11 at halftime.
Phil Campbell scored 18 second-half points, but by then Red Bay had pulled away for good.
With the win Red Bay advances to the semifinals where it will play second-seeded Belgreen. The game will be Saturday at 2:45 p.m. at Belgreen High School.
Buddy Kuykendall scored a team-high 10 points for Red Bay while Kyle Fuller and Matt Senkbeil scored seven points each.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Austin Belue (6), Keenan Sparks (6), Jake Holland (4), Barry Reach (4), Tyler Reach (3), Austin Childers (2) and Taylor Weclowski (2).
Nathan Duncan scored a game-high 18 points for Phil Campbell. Also scoring for the Bobcats were Johnny Stricklin (5), Tommy Reed (4) and Trevor Farley (2).
