Red Bay council kicks off 2010 business

RED BAY- The Red Bay City Council held its first meeting of the new year Monday. State Sen. Roger Bedford kicked off the meeting by presenting a check for $2,500 to the Franklin County Community Development Commission.
City officials followed by presenting a check for $4,250 to the school system to finish off the amount owed for the school’s new sign.
Council member Brad Bolton said the new sign would represent the school well.
The school plans on having the sign in place by the end of February.
In other business, city officials and engineers have made plans to restore the town’s water tank. The Land and Water Conservation project hopes to refurbish the water tank that has been apart of the town since 1906.
Mayor Bobby Forsythe said the water tank is one of the reasons for the town’s existence.
Bolton said the water tank needed to be restored badly.
The council also discussed the occupational tax ordinance. After a few suggestions, council members decided to table the subject until the next meeting.
Council members voted in Debra Harrison to fill the vacant Senior Citizen Board position. The council also reinstated Jacquelene Parson to serve another term on Red Bay’s Education Committee.
Forsythe concluded the meeting, telling residents the town is ready in case it snows. “We have made preperations just in case some bad weather moves in,” he said. “Maybe the severe parts will miss us.”
Forsythe said he hopes this next year goes as well as 2009.
