Cold spell requires special preparations

Severe cold weather has moved into Franklin County and is predicted to stay for several more days.
With overnight lows close to single digits and highs in the low to mid 30s, residents of Franklin County need to take precautions to prevent burst pipes or injuries from the cold.
Turning up the heat and allowing faucets to trickle will lead to a slightly higher utility bill, but it will be cheaper than paying a plumber to repair pipes damaged by the freezing temperatures.
If you have an elderly relative, check in on them and make sure they can fight the cold. Elderly people have a harder time staying warm due to poor circulation.
Residents who have to be outside for extended periods of time should wear several layers of clothing as well as something to cover the head to prevent the loss of body heat.
Finally, bring in outdoor pets or provide them with a warm place to stay as they try to battle the cold as well.
