Board bids farewell to superintendent

The Franklin County Board of Education recognized Superintendent Bill Moss at his final board meeting Thursday afternoon.
Assistant Superintendent Gary Williams, who was elected Franklin County Schools superintendent in June, will take over his new duties starting Monday.
"When I took this job on July 2, 2001, I was told these people are not very good but they have been absolutely fantastic," said Moss, who retired Oct. 31. "The group of ladies (in the Central Office) do a good job and I feel good about turning it over to Gary Williams.
Despite the challenges of a prorated budget, Moss said he has high expectations for the system.
"We have students with pride at every school in the county and teachers who do a good job and outstanding personnel," Moss said. "When you have good people, good things happen.
"It's good to have a board that will work with you, and I've enjoyed working with (them)."
Donald Borden, school board president, credited Moss with improving the school system during his tenure as superintendent.
"The board members wish to express our appreciation for him," Borden said. "I believe the school board is in better shape than it was 7 1/2 years ago."
