HUNTSVILLE – Russellville blew a 14-point lead in the third quarter, but pulled away from there as the Golden Tigers rolled to a 43-13 victory against Johnson Friday.
Brent Calloway scored on a 36-yard run to give Russellville an early 7-0 lead and Jesse Green added to the lead with a 1-yard run.
Johnson reached the end zone in the second and third quarters to cut the Russellville lead to 14-13.
Calloway stopped the rally with a 6-yard run and Darrian Graham added another touchdown to help Russellville pull away.
The Golden Tigers were not finished, adding scores in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard pass from Joey Howe to Mario Roman and on an interception return.
Calloway finished the game with eight carries for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
With the win, Russellville improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in region play. The Golden Tigers are tied with Athens for second place in the division.
Russellville will host East Limestone Friday in its final regular-season home game. The Golden Tigers can clinch a playoff spot with a victory over the Indians.
If Russellville and Athens win this week, next week's game will determine the winner of the region's second seed. That team will host a home game during the first round of the playoffs.
