Class to help find a healthy weight

SHEFFIELD – Fifty-eight million people in the United States are overweight while 40 million people are obese, and three million people are morbidly obese.
Alabama is listed number three with just over 28 percent of the population overweight.
While there are many ways to combat obesity, Helen Keller Hospital is offering local residents an opportunity to learn how to manage a healthy weight by offering a healthy weight class next week.
Christa Martin, event organizer, said the free class will be offered twice Thursday, Sept. 25.
"This time we are having two sessions," Martin said. "One at lunch and one in the evening."
Martin said the hospital offered the class last spring and found success with it.
"It was developed by Registered Nurse Practioner Lori Pace, who will be teaching the evening session with Dr. Martha Alderidge," Martin said.
Each session will provide information on body measurement, diet, and exercise along with tips for those wishing to lose weight because of health conditions.
Registered Dietitian Meredith Davis will teach the first session.
"Meredith can give extra advice for those attending who have conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure," Martin said.
The first session will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the second session will begin at 5:30 p.m. A light meal will be served at both sessions compliments of the Helen Keller Wellcare Center.
