Paul E. Guinn, 63, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at his residence in Muscle Shoals. He was born Dec. 28, 1944 in Franklin County to Troy and Agnes Louise Pendergraph Guinn. He worked in shipping and receiving at Abbott Laboratories.
Funeral services were held Sept. 13 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Greg Philamlee officiating. Burial was in Halltown Cemetery in Vina.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Guinn and his fianc/ Linda, Jonathan Guinn (Rebecca) and Daniel Troy Guinn, all of Kenosha, Wis.; grandchildren, Jonathan Guinn Jr. and Troy Guinn, both of Kenosha, Wis.; aunts, Pat Moore (Clyde) of Golden, Miss. and Maxine Sanders (Ray) of Belmont, Miss.; uncles, Gilley Guinn, Orville Guinn and Foy Guinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his cousins served as pallbearers.

Quinton E. Williams

Quinton Edward Williams, 73, of Phil Campbell died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. Williams was a native of Franklin County and was retired after 20 years as a truck driver at U.S. reduction. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
The funeral service was Sept. 13 at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Johnny Richardson officiating. Burial was in Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Russellville.
He is survived by his children, Kenny Williams and wife Jayne of Gulf Shores, Peggy Arbogast and husband Jim of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lynn Moncrief and husband Johnny of Pell City; brothers, Quinice, Ray and Jack Williams, all of Russellville; sister, Sue Poston of Russellville; stepchildren, David Stout, Dennis and Lisa Stout and Debra and Dustin Curtis; grandchildren, Jason and Stephanie Graves, Brandon Graves, Ashley Williams, Chris Boord, Lauren and Adam Dimitrou, Chris Capps, Josh Capps, Jeremy Moncrief, Jonathan Moncrief, Jame and Mark Tidwell, Rachel Curtis, Wesley Curtis, Brad Stout, Bridget Stout and Christy Stout; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin R. and Ruthie M. Williams; sister, Odessa Simpson; and stepson, Donnie Stout.

William Blansit

William "Bill" Frederick Blansit, 68, of Cleveland, Tenn. and formerly of Double Springs, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at his home. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
His graveside service was Sept. 13 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery with Clice Rogers officiating. He is survived by his wife, Susie Little Blansit; children, Brad McKleroy and Jessica Thorn; granddaughter, Michaela Thorn; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lillian Blansit.

George H. Murphy

Paul "Bear" Bryant once said, "If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit – you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards." George H. Murphy Jr. was driven by these words and adopted them as his philosophy for life.
Born in Sheffield, Alabama, on Jan. 14, 1935, he played football and baseball at Russellville High School. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1958 with a degree in business and marketing. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
In 1960, he married Barbara Ryder of Childersburg. Together they pursued their careers and had three children, "Missy," Ward, and John. His career took the family from Florence to Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, Montreal and New York.
Community service was always a significant part of his life. As a staunch supporter of the University of Alabama, he served more than 10 years as an executive member of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association. During his tenure, he held the office of vice president of the National Alumni Association from 1978-1980 and was awarded the Out-of-State Outstanding President Award in 1978. He also served a two-year term as alumni president of the 2,000-strong Atlanta chapter.
Professionally, he learned the newsprint business from the ground up. He began his career in 1963 as a sales trainee in the International Paper Company corporate training program and worked his way through newsprint technical service and sales. In 1969, at age 34, hee became the youngest sales executive in the company's history to be named regional vice president. He earned a reputation in the newspaper industry for his savvy with large and demanding customers. Respected throughout the industry as a straight shooter, he developed long-term relationships with the country's leading newspaper groups.
After retiring from the newsprint business, he was a volunteer board member of the Bedford Area Family YMCA and served as interim director from 2000 to 2001. In 2001, the Bedford YMCA Board of Directors hired him to manage the "Building for Your Future" capital campaign and to direct a team of volunteers comprised of distinguished community leaders and YMCA board members. Under his direction, the team raised approximately $2.1 million.
From 2004 through 2007, he served as president of the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust. In addition to his wife Barbara and mother Bertha, he is survived by his children, Helen "Missy" Godfroy and husband Humphrey; Ward and wife Diane, John and wife Leigh Ann; four grandchildren; sisters, Jo Dorris, Lola Fay and Annie; brother, Roney; brother-in-laws Jack Hudson and Donald Rowe; sister-in-law, Marilyn; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held July 9, 2008 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Bedford, Va.
