ACCESS provides opportunities

Franklin County schools will be ahead of the state's mandated time period for having distance learning labs in schools.
Gov. Bob Riley announced this week that 85 more schools will receive video conferencing capabilities in January.
Each of the 85 schools is receiving $85,000 to fund an ACCESS Distance Learning classroom. ACCESS stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide.
The program offers a wide range of instruction in areas like foreign languages and advanced level courses in math, English, social studies and science.
All Franklin County schools will have the capability in January, several months before some other schools.
When the ACCESS network is complete next year, Alabama will be the first state in the nation to have online learning and video conferencing in every high school.
