Calling all cyclists! The Russellville Kiwanis Club is currently pre-registering cyclists for the club's Seventh Annual Watermelon Festival Bicycle Ride.
The ride will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 beginning at 7:30 a.m. On-site registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Russellville High School Auditorium.
Club Vice-President Kathy Archer said the proceeds from the ride go to help the club with their community projects, which include the Franklin County Rescue Squad, Healing Place, Safeplace, DHR, Sara Dinsmore Center, Faith Mission, Head Start, Dream Center, Russellville Firefighters, and the Miracle League.
"Donations are also given to help the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, Farm City Banquet, and the CITY program," Archer said.
The club also awards two $500 scholarships each year, and sponsors the RHS Key Club.
"The bicycle ride will help the club fund our projects," Archer said.
In addition to the bicycle ride, the club has a pancake breakfast each year.
The registration cost for the ride is $20 in advance, and $25 on-site. There will be snacks and drink provided at three rest stops along the 35-mile ride. The event will conclude with a lunch, which is included in the cost of the ride.
