County drivers may have noticed a change in the city welcome sign located near Good Springs Family Restaurant on U.S. 43.
The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce teamed up with The Country Cottage and the city to renovate the sign, which was updated last week by city officials.
"It just needed to be done – it was past due and we're very proud of the new sign," said chamber director Cheryl Bradford. "I'm new to the chamber so I went to the board and asked about fixing the sign. They were supportive of the idea, and city inspector Bill Fuller and Mayor (Johnny) Brown approved the project."
Bradford said the purpose of the sign is to display the city's various civic organizations.
"I'm not sure how long the welcome sign has been there but it allows us to showcase the civic clubs that are active in our city," Bradford said. "We took down the signs that were faded and then put the ones that are in good repair back up, and each sign now has to meet a specific size requirement."
The signs currently displayed on the sign include logos from Russellville Lodge 371, Russellville Civitans, Russellville Kiwanis Club and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, and the Lions Club sign will be installed soon.
