Have you ever been seated to have your meal and someone at the table asks,"Where are the rolls"?
Any good meal is better if you provide a suitable bread to enhance your meal. Vegetable meals require cornbread. Fancy meals need rolls. A quick lunch needs homemade breads. Breakfast, lunchboxes, and snacktime need muffins.
Making your own bread has some wonderful attributes. It smells so good while your cooking it and this gets everyone's taste buds going. If you are concerned about additives and preservatives you will know what is in the bread you are preparing. Also, if you don't have a large family, you may save some left overs. You can freeze the bread for another meal.
Cornbread can be made several different ways. We have included several of these recipes on our recipe page this week. Our first cornbread recipe on the list freezes well. The recipe makes 12 muffins so you can eat what your need for your meal and put the rest in a zip-lock bag and freeze for your next vegetable meal. Just warm in the microwave as you need them. Aren't microwaves wonderful!
Homemade rolls are very special for a special meal. I remember my mother making homemade rolls for Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas meals. We really looked forward to those soft, buttery rolls. They melted in your mouth. I can't cook like that! I have included on our recipe page this week a recipe that sounds like the one Mother used. Hope you give it a try, it is really good. It is the Icebox yeast rolls. They will love you if you bake this for them.
We love homemade white of wheat bread with our sandwhiches. There in no better taste with your fresh garden tomatoes, thin slices of meat, cheese, olives, lettece and any other vegetable you can get on your sandwich. You can also toast this bread to give your sandwich a good toasty taste.
And there is the wonderful muffin. They come in many flavors and are suitable for many occasions. Cook them ahead and put in zip-lock bags in your freezer. Warm as needed. Find out the flavors your family enjoy most and keep them handy.
