Russellville wins state tournament opener, falls to Huntsville-Eastern 3-2 in Game 2

HUNTSVILLE – The Russellville 9-10 All-Stars blanked Phenix City 8-0 in the state tournament opener Saturday but moved into the elimination bracket after a 3-2 loss to Hunstville-Eastern Sunday.
On Saturday, Russellville starter Austin Kitterman went three innings and struck out three while allowing only three hits and no runs. Cody Greenhill and Taylor Vincent worked the remaining three innings, allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out one.
After a scoreless first inning, Russellville scored four runs in the top of the second inning.
Vincent smacked a two-run single to bring in Greenhill and Kitterman, Trey Williams singled home Vincent and Joshua Seal added an RBI single to put Russellville ahead 4-0.
Russellville push across three more runs in the top of the third inning to lead 7-0.
Kitterman and Vincent each singled and scored on an error in left field, while Seal hit an RBI double to bring around Samuel Evans.
Russellville's final run came in the top of the sixth inning as Seal walked and Reed Smith scored him on an RBI double.
Seal went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Vincent went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kitterman went 2-for-2.
In Sunday's game, Russellville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Judd Ward had an RBI double to score Greenhill but Huntsville-Eastern took a 2-1 lead in third off a two-run homer.
Russellville tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning but Huntsville-Eastern took the lead for good with a one-run shot in the bottom of the inning.
Seal went three innings with three hits, while Ward pitched three innings in relief while allowing only one hit.
Seal also singled and drove in a run, Ward had a double and an RBI and Smth and Vincent each singled.
