Best of Franklin County

By Staff
Suzanne Langcuster
We live in a notable county. There are many things we can be greatful for here in Franklin County. Our county has Phil Campbell's Dismals, Red Bay's Water Park and Museum, Russellville's Roxy Theater , The AW Todd Centre and the Watermelon Festival, historical communities like Vina, Hodges, Waco, Tharptown, Newburg's Halleluliah Trail, and many more.
And then you have our people, the greatest treasure of all!
We have another special place in our county. The Farmer's Market on the corner of Green Street and Montgomery Street in Russellville. What an unique experience to visit there in the summertime and enjoy the beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers.
When we go to the market we have trouble trying to decide what good treats to purchase. The growers are so happy to help you select your produce and even weigh your veggies for you.
We like to rush home and start preparing them right away while they are good and fresh. Among our favorites are green tomatoes for frying, fresh red tomatoes, squash, potatoes, melons, okra, and fresh cucumbers to make dill pickles. There will soon be a good assortment of watermelons to enjoy, right here at our own backdoor.
Included on our recipe page today are some recipes you can use to prepare some delicious meals for your family. I don't need to tell Southern cooks how to prepare vegetables but sometimes we can make casseroles and other conjured up recipes tha give the vegetables a differant taste.
Through the years we have found some very unique recipes and we also remember some of the dishes make by our own relatives, which were usually never written down.
These are the best ones!
The recipes we pass to each other are tried and true. They are the ones we cherish most. So, here goes. I'm passing some on to you. Hope you enjoy every bite of the delicious produce Franklin County has to offer and some recipes to help make it happen.
