Looking for a good book

By Staff
We've started a new nightly ritual at the Cannon household.
Tuesday night, Lizzie asked Tiffany to read her a story before she went to sleep.
Lizzie, who is only three years old, has always been an avid reader. She's practically grown up with a newspaper, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
She accumulates books like no child I've ever seen.
Once or twice a year, Tiffany and her mother will plan a shopping trip together.
Lizzie and I plan our own trip to Toys R Us and even though we're in a toy warehouse, each time we leave with at least one book.
When she was a baby, we had a book of animals.
She'd sit in my lap and I'd point to the pictures. Lizzie would tell me what kind of animal it was, what color it was and, in some cases, what noise it made.
We opened and closed that book so many times, the cover eventually fell off and it split in half at the spine. We had to buy another one.
Dr. Seuss' ABC is another book, Lizzie, Tiffany and I have put a lot of mileage on.
For as long as I can remember, she's always liked to read or be read to. In the last few months, Lizzie has started to read to her dolls.
Tiffany and I assumed that the days of us reading to her were over, mostly because she'd stopped asking us.
But Tuesday night, carrying a Strawberry Shortcake book she'd bought last Saturday afternoon, she said she was ready for bed and wanted to read a story.
Some times it's two small books. Other times it's several chapters in a larger book. It really doesn't matter as long as she gets to pick it out.
I haven't gotten my turn to read yet, but I know my day is coming.
In the meantime, I'll wait in the wings and make sure there's an ample supply of fresh reading material at her disposal.
