A Danville man faces attempted murder charges in Franklin County after allegedly dragging a person behind his vehicle last weekend.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said Jonathan Tanksley, 32, of 957 County Road 84 in Danville, was arrested Sunday night and charged with attempted murder.
Hargett said Tanksley and the victim met at Eastside Park to conduct a custody exchange when an altercation began between the pair about a situation with the child.
During the altercation, Tanksley put the child in his vehicle and was trying to leave with the child.
"The victim reached in the drivers side door and attempted to turn the vehicle off," Hargett said.
Tanksley then sped away with the victim on the outside of the vehicle.
"The defendant sped down Madison Street, across Highway 43 and down Highway 48," Hargett said. "The defendant caused the victim to fall from the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 48 and County Road 77."
The victim was treated and released from Russellville Hospital.
Tanksley was found in Lawrence County later that night and charged with attempted murder.
He remains in the Franklin County Detention Center pending a $75,000 bond.
