Thursday Update: Tornado watch, warning in effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado warning for Northwestern Franklin County until 10:15 a.m.
At 9:30 a.m., National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a Severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado 17 miles Southwest of Cherokee, or about 9 miles north of Red Bay, moving Northeast at 25 mph.
In addition to the tornado this storm is capable of producing nickel size hail and destructive straight line winds to near 60 mph, even outside of the tornado area.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon for northwestern Alabama.
