Massey seeks second term

By Staff
Rayburn Massey has announced his candidacy for re-election as county commissioner for District 3.
Massey, who has been married to Brenda Stepp Massey for 40 years, is completing his first term as commissioner.
The couple has two children, Crista Massey Madden and her husband, Jeff Madden, and a son, Jeff Massey and his wife, Tara Massey. They have four grandchildren, Kody and Darby Madden, and Madelyn and Reagan Massey.
Massey graduated from Belgreen High School and received diplomas from Hamilton Technical College and Calhoun Technical College.
He attends Five Points Church of Christ.
"I am retired from Solutia, Inc. in Decatur after 36 years, therefore, I will be free of any obligations or responsibilities that would hinder my ability to serve the citizens of Franklin County," he said.
During his time at Solutia, Massey supervised about 40 employees and managed a $5 million dollar annual budget. He also helped implement a $35 million dollar project in his department and dealt with personnel issues.
"My primary reason for seeking re-election is to continue to ensure quality of life for future generations in Franklin County," Massey said.
"I feel this can be accomplished by promoting education and once our children are educated, they need good jobs here so they can raise their families in Franklin County."
Some of the things accomplished while Massey's been in office include: replacing the county highway department office without incurring any debt, getting the highway department debt free, replaced the scale at the landfill, purchased land for the first Franklin County Industrial Park and developed that site through ARC money, provided high speed internet for existing industries and obtained funding for security and communication technology at the new county jail through grants.
"I promise to continue to be honest, hard-working and dependable," Massey said. "Again, I humbly ask for your vote and support on June 3."
