By By Jonathan Willis
Authorities are still waiting to verify the identities of two people killed in a weekend wreck.
Two people were killed between 11:30-11:45 p.m. Friday when a Mercury Cougar they were traveling in collided with a Ford truck on the two-lane portion of Alabama 13 in Phil Campbell.
Officials said it appears that the car went off the road then came back on to Alabama 13 and hit the truck. The car was sideways on the road when it collided with the truck.
The Cougar burst into flames upon contact.
Both bodies were sent to Huntsville for forensic testing so they can be positively identified.
Phil Campbell Police Chief Merrell Potter said Monday that he hopes to have positive identifications by sometime Tuesday.
