The Russellville City Council suspended a veteran police officer Monday night, a week after he was accused of using a taser on an inmate without provocation.
Officer Jerry McClurg was placed on suspension for 15 days without pay Monday night. He was originally suspended by the police department on April 15 when the investigation began.
He was accused of using the taser on inmate Joseph Gentry, 27, of Kent Street in Phil Campbell, who had been held in the Russellville City Jail on a bond revocation.
Gentry's wife, Crystal, initially reported the incident to city officials who opened an investigation. McClurg was also removed as the department's taser instructor.
He faces no more disciplinary action by the city.
