There will be a new face in front of the First Baptist Church of Russellville congregation today.
With this morning's services, the church welcomes its newest member of the flock: Bro. Barry Holcomb.
Holcomb became a Christian at the age of 24 and entered the ministry in the late 1980s.
"As a pastor, I believe that God has called me to lead others to Christ personally, and through equipping His body, the church, to do ministry," Holcomb said.
Holcomb earned a Bachelor of Science and Education from Auburn University and obtained a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Holcomb and his wife, Kathi, will celebrate 20 years of marriage in July. Together, the couple has two children, Nathan, 14, and Abigail, 11.
While Holcomb will begin working in Russellville this weekend, he will split his time between Andalusia and Russellville through next month.
Holcomb comes to Russellville from Bethany Baptist Church in Andalusia.
"I'll spend Sunday through Wednesday in Russellville through May," Holcomb said. "At the end of May, we will be moving to Russellville as soon as we find a house and are able to make the move."
Holcomb said his family will attend Sunday service as often as possible but will not be able to be in Russellville regularly until the family moves.
"It's a long drive," Holcomb said, adding that he and his family are all very excited about the move to Russellville.
Bro. Barry and Kathi are originally from Birmingham.
Both are graduates of Auburn University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary..
After moving back to Alabama from seminary in 1991, the Holcombs have served churches in Anniston, Gadsden, Ashford and Andalusia.
