Phil Campbell earns baseball sweep

Red Bay softball edges Phil Campbell 6-4

PHIL CAMPBELL – The eighth-ranked Phil Campbell varsity baseball team, which claimed a spot in the Class 2A Top 10 poll for the first time this season, swept Area 16 rival Cherokee Tuesday.
In the first game Phil Campbell scored seven runs in the final two innings to win 9-5 as Jonathan Dill scattered five hits over six innings and Jordan Benford earned the save.
Caleb Thompson had two hits and drove in two runs during a five-run fifth inning, and Benford added an RBI double in the sixth.
The Bobcats (15-6, 5-1) won the nightcap 6-4 with Benford throwing four innings with only four hits allowed.
Stephen Lacey led Phil Campbell with an RBI and two hits, while Dillan Hamby added a double and drove in a run. Benford also went 2-for-2 at the plate.

RED BAY – The Red Bay varsity softball team improved to 2-2 in Class 2A, Area 16 with a 6-4 win over Phil Campbell Tuesday.
Emily Cox earned the win for the Lady Tigers (9-9) and allowed only four hits.
Cox also drove in a run and went for 2-for-3, while Kirstin Sharp added two singles.
Kim Clark took the loss for Phil Campbell, and Chasity Morgan was perfect at the plate for the Lady Bobcats (6-6, 2-2) with three hits.
Colbert Heights 5
Russellville 3
COLBERT HEIGHTS – The Russellville varsity softball team lost 5-3 to Colbert Heights Tuesday, while the junior varsity beat the Lady Wildcats 11-3.
Russellville (3-7) led 3-0 after four innings but Colbert Heights (16-4) pushed across three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Breannia Malone, who allowed five hits and had five strikeouts, took the loss for Russellville. Laurie Rickard went 3-for-3 with three singles, while Hollie Hillman went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Holly Parrish scored a run and Lauren Murry drew two walks.
Colbert Heights' Kristen Claunch earned her 13th victory as she struck out 14 and allowed six hits, while Amanda Wallace went 3-for-3 with a 3-RBI triple in the fifth.
