Third inning's the charm

Red Bay softball sweeps Tharptown JV, varsity

RED BAY – The Red Bay junior varsity and varsity softball teams blew open close games in the third inning to pick up home victories over Tharptown Monday evening at David Tiffin Field.
The Lady Tigers JV (4-0) pushed across eight runs in the third inning to extend a 4-2 lead. Lexie Lindsey slammed a home run and finished 2-for-3 and Jade Ezzell also went 2-for-3.
Laken Tucker earned the win for Red Bay with five strikeouts in three innings while allowing only one hit.
Haley Hatton took the loss for Tharptown (1=2) as Hatton went 1-for-2 and Santana Colburn and Liz Ramirez each scored a run.
In the varsity game Tharptown took an early 1-0 lead when Hollie Hines drew a walk and scored off an infield RBI single from Lori Metcalf.
Red Bay (3-3), led by three hits and a home run from Ashley Frame, made its move in the bottom of the third inning when the Lady Tigers pushed across 12 runs and rapped out 10 hits.
Red Bay increased its lead to 15-1 with three more runs in the fourth as Jess Myrick took her first loss for Tharptown (4-1). The Lady Tigers' Whitney Sharp came on n relief in the top of the fifth with three strikeouts.
