Give to help a child

By Staff
Melissa Cason
It seems like there are more and more child abuse and sexual abuse cases involving children making headlines.
In the past month, I have written several stories on parents endangering their children by allegedly making methamphetamine in their presence or just abusing them either physically or sexually.
I don't pretend to know the reasoning behind any of these actions. Children are our most precious commodity, and without them we would have nothing because we would not have a future.
We should always do what we can to protect them no matter what.
I know I have said this before, but it's true. Anyone who harms a child should be tortured beyond imagination.
I think I have said in the past that Chinese Water Torture is not stiff enough for those who abuse children and I stand by that statement.
The Franklin County Domestic Violence Response Coalition and Safeplace Inc. are getting ready for their sixth annual Walk-a-Mile for a Child campaign to raise money for Safeplace and bring awareness about child abuse to the public.
Walkers are asked to form teams and help raise money for Safeplace so they can offer assistance to those suffering in silence. The walk traditionally takes the participants past the agencies where children get help to free them from abuse.
I encourage anyone who possibly can to get involved to help raise awareness to what seems to be a growing problem, not just in our community, but in all communities.
I know sometimes it's difficult to believe that one person can make a difference in the life of a child but one person can. And, if that one person gains support from another person, and then, that person enlists helps, soon we'll have a huge group of people wanting to make a difference in the life of a child, and that's when change takes place in our communities.
So don't just sit there thinking your efforts are lost because as long as there is one child suffering, the battle is not over.
