Local boys teams eliminated in area tourneys

FLORENCE – The top-seeded Shoals Christian boys eliminated Belgreen last Friday with 75-41 win in the second round of the Class 1A, Area 16 tournament.
Taylor Hester led Belgreen (7-19 with 14 points, while Spencer Hargett had 12 and Kyle Warren added five.
UNA signee Daniel Almon led Shoals Christian (21-5) with 28 points.
"We had a tough year and a tough season but the guys played hard and gave it a great effort, and our season came to end sooner than we wanted it to," said Belgreen coach Wes Hester.
Mars Hill 81
Red Bay 18
FLORENCE – The Mars Hill boys advanced out of the Class 2A, Area 16 opening round Friday by not allowing Red Bay to score more than nine points in any quarer while outscoring the Tigers 51-13 in the first half.
Justin Page and Grant Fancher each scored five for Red Bay (8-18), and Cody Tucker added four.
Mitchell Barnes paced Mars Hill (20-9) with 24 points – all in the first half – and Ben Wright tossed in 19.
Cherokee 67
Phil Campbell 51
FLORENCE – The Cherokee boys used a 21-10 run in the second quarter to beat Phil Campbell in the Class 2A, Area 16 tournament Friday.
Tanner Maddox had 16 points for Phil Campbell (11-16), while Caleb Thompson had 11.
D.J. Brooks scored 20 points for Cherokee (18-9).
