ROGERSVILLE – Red Bay guard Morgan Duncan had a season-high 22 points as the Lady Tigers overwhelmed 3A Elkmont 76-52 in the opening round of the Northwest Alabama Christmas Tournament Wednesday night.
Red Bay trailed early and led by only 12 points entering the second quarter, but Duncan, who finished with six 3-pointers, drilled two treys in the opening minutes of the second quarter. The Lady Tigers reeled off a 14-2 run that included a 3-pointer from Jessica Johnston and layups from Chelsey McWilliams and Brittany Scott.
Elkmont cut the lead to 42-20 in the third quarter on back-to-back layups by Jamie Lack, but McWilliams responded with a steal and a basket, and Red Bay led 53-33 at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Lack scored off three easy layups when the Red Devils managed to break Red Bay's full-court press, but Duncan scored six points during a 12-6 run, including two 3-pointers, to keep the game out of reach for Elkmont.
McWilliams finished with 19 points, including eight in the second quarter, while Johnston had 13 points and Scott added eight. Aimee Jackson scored six points off two treys, while Britan Bolding, Haley Sharp, Jackie Holland and Caitline Childers each scored two.
Elkmont was led by Lack, who had 18 points, while Stephane Brantley had 12 and Bailee Robinson added 10.
