What Christmas really means

By Staff
Jerry Fancher
Historians acknowledge that a person named Jesus was born in Israel. In the United States, we have a holiday celebrating His birth.
Christmas is a time that families get together to exchange gifts and enjoy the festivities of the season. Students are counting the days until they have a two week vacation.
We are trying to find that perfect gift for our loved ones. Mothers are busy planning and cooking the great food we love. At work, we are rushing to get everything done so we can enjoy some extra time off. We are dreading the last minute shopping and fighting the traffic. The children want Mama to bake cookies for Santa Claus.
The older generation thinks back to their childhood and how we usually received only one toy from Santa Clause. Most of the toys required you to use your imagination and muscles to enjoy them. The toys exercised more than your finger muscles when you played with them. Ah, the good old days were really good!!!
Today we are bombarded with commercials telling us to buy this and it will really show our loved ones how much we love them.
We have to go to this event, rush to get the last minute gift we forgot and become stressed out from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
CHRISTMAS, what does it really mean? The Bible tells of our Lord's birth some 2000 years ago. The account in Luke chapter 2 tells of the events that happened when Jesus was born.
This year I encourage you to get the Bible out and read the story of Jesus' birth when the family is gathered together. This is where you can find the true meaning of Christmas. We could not experience the love we share as a family, if God had not given to the world his precious Son Jesus 2000 years ago.
Merry Christmas from our family to yours.
