A Russellville man died Monday morning as a result of injuries sustained when his truck collided with a dump truck on Alabama Highway 24.
Franklin County Coroner Elzie Malone said Vicente Madrigal, 70, of Russellville, was pronounced dead on the scene at approximately 11:20 a.m. His death was attributed to multiple blunt force traumas that occurred during the accident.
"Mr. Madrigal suffered multiple injuries including injuries to the chest, head and lower extremities," Malone said.
Officials at the Quad Cities State Troopers post said Madrigal was driving a 1981 Dodge pickup when he entered the path of a 1998 Mack dump truck driven by David Keith Merritt, 61, of Moulton, five miles east of Russellville.
Malone said Merritt did not appear to be injured and did not seek medical treatment on the scene of the accident. No further medical information for Merritt was made available.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the Russellville Fire Department, Tharptown Volunteer Fire Department and the Alabama Highway Department assisted at the scene.
