PHIL CAMBPELL – A Phil Campbell couple walked away from the Georgia Country Gospel Music Association Awards last week with almost too much hardware to carry to the car.
Patricia Gentry walked away with Entertainer of the Year and CD of the Year while her husband, Don, took home Songwriter of the Year.
"I don't know what to think," Don said. "Write one song, and it goes to number 14 on the charts and I win songwriter of the year award."
Don's song, "I Hope You See Him in Me," was the title track from Patricia's latest CD. Patricia took home the CD of the Year award for that very same album.
"We knew we were nominated but we never expected to win," Patricia said.
More impressing than the trophies is that "I Hope You See Him in Me" was the first song Don ever penned.
"It just flowed out of me," Don said. "I don't know where it came from."
Patricia has been singing and entertaining for years and has released six albums, and is getting ready to release her seventh.
"We'll go into the studio next week to begin laying down the rhythms," Don said.
Patricia and Don are members of the Georgia Country Gospel Music Association and the Circuit Rider Country Gospel Music Association.
"We are so grateful to get to do this even on a part time basis," Patricia said.
