Red Bay mauls Addison 42-14, wins Class 1A, Region title

RED BAY – No. 8 Red Bay powered past defending region champion No. 7 Addison 42-14 Friday night at Fred Bostick Jr. Memorial Stadium to win the Class 2A, Region 8 title for the first time since 2004.
Red Bay (8-0, 6-0) also clinched the No. 1 playoff seed in the region and will host the first round of the playoffs on Nov. 9.
"Addison is always one of the best-coached teams that we play and they played hard tonight," Red Bay coach Dale Jeffreys said. "Our defense played really well tonight, especially out pass coverage. Our offensive line did well, and we managed to avoid any turnovers – you can't keep turning the ball over and expect to win. We have worked on our kicking game, too, and that helped us with field position tonight.
"I'm very proud of all of our team and these other coaches as well – they've all worked hard this week."
The Bulldogs (6-2, 5-1) lost for the first time since R.A. Hubbard came back to win on the final play of the game in Week 1.
"My hat's off to coach Jeffreys and the Red Bay team – they're very talented," said Addison coach Randy White. "We had a plan tonight but could not execute it against them. We could move the ball pretty well at times, but we could not stop them from moving it."
Red Bay rushed for 365 yards, including 188 yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns by senior running back Josh Senkbeil. Addison finished with 176 yards rushing on 35 carries.
Red Bay jumped out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead after rushing scores from Senkbeil and quarterback Anthony Horton, and the Tigers defense scored a safety after causing Addison quarterback Jordan Rivers to drop the ball in the end zone.
After Red Bay forced another Addison fumble, Senkbeil capitalized with a 50-yard touchdown run seconds into the second quarter. He added a 4-yard score to put the Tigers ahead 30-0 with 7:48 left in the quarter.
Addison running back Andrew Privett answered with a 9-yard touchdown with 5:29 left, and Daniel Mann booted the PAT to make it 30-7 at halftime.
Senkbeil struck again with a 20-yard run around right end with 9:11 left in the third quarter to put the Tigers ahead 37-7.
The Bulldogs' Jordan Rivers fired a 3-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Colton Alston with 1:52 left in the third, and Mann converted the PAT to make it 37-14.
The final score came on a 14-yard Horton pass to Pablo Makepeace, who was 6-of-6 on PATs, in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.
Addison's Rivers finished 3-of-12 for 33 yards and one touchdown, while Horton was 7-of-9 for 89 yards and one touchdown, and he also added a rushing score.
The Tigers defense was led by Cody Armstrong (five tackles) and Curtis Morrell (four tackles). Joe McKinney, Steven Prestage and DJ Elrod each finished with three tackles.
Red Bay will play at Hatton next Friday as the Tigers will look to finish region play with a perfect record.
