East Franklin holding fall festival

EAST FRANKLIN – The nights are getting a little cooler and leaves are beginning to fall. Autumn is here, and it's that time of year again: Time for the Fall Festival.
East Franklin's Fall Festival is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the school gym.
"This is out biggest fundraiser for the school," school employee Judy Wynn said. "The money generated from our Fall Festival goes to cover operating expenses for the school."
The festival will include a variety of games including football toss, shooting gallery, cakewalk and the ever-popular Bingo.
"Bingo is our most popular game," Wynn said. "We get businesses to donate the prizes for the bingo game, and they are always really good prizes."
She added that the Bingo generates a large portion of the event's proceeds.
Wynn said that the cakewalk is another popular game at the festival. Most of the cakes are homemade from community members, but there are a few store-bought confections as well.
"The day of the festival, our office will be covered with cakes of all kinds," Wynn said.
She added that a lot of people make the same cake recipe every year, and especially for the Fall Festival.
In addition to the games and the cakes, there are the concessions. The concession tables at the event are manned by the candidates for Mr. and Miss East Franklin and their families. The road to the crown is a competitive one, and the candidate that raises the most money before the cut-off time is named Mr. and Miss East Franklin.
"We usually count the money around 8:30," Wynn said. "And the money is counted by an impartial judge."
While they have until that night to raise money, the candidates start long before in the race to the title.
"We have four girls in the race, and one boy right now, and we expect another little boy to join the race soon," Wynn said.
Admission into the event is $1, and the cost of the games are three tries for 50-cents.
