City awarded $100K for water system

Russellville residents along County Highway 60 will find it refreshing that the city was awarded $100,000 in grant funding to improve water service Wednesday.
Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) announced that the city of Russellville has received approval for the $100,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for water service improvements along Franklin County Highway 60, east of U.S. Highway 43.
The improvements will provide approximately twenty customers with improved water service and fire protection.
The existing water line is two inches in diameter and cannot supply residents with adequate pressure for everyday household activities. The proposed project would replace the existing two-inch line with a six-inch PVC line and eight fire hydrants.
"Area residents have experienced an ongoing problem with their water service that this money will go a long way toward helping solve," Aderholt said.
"It's also a safety issue in that there are concerns about the level of fire protection that currently exists."
In addition to the ARC funds, the City of Russellville Water and Sewer Board will provide $53,203 in local matching resources.
The projects total cost will be $153,203.
