    Local student-athletes win scholarships

    The following Franklin County student-athletes have received college scholarships to the University of North Alabama or Northwest-Shoals Community College:
    Paige Duncan received a University of North Alabama leadership scholarship. A graduate of Red Bay High School, she was a member of the varsity cheerleading squad and tennis and track teams as well as Students Against Destructive Decisions, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. Her leadership activities included Envirothon Team, Franklin County Junior Leadership Team and several class officer positions. She was an All-Star cheerleader and represented the United States and Alabama in the Down Under Bowl in Brisbane, Australia. She will be a freshman at UNA majoring in education. She is the daughter of Karen Thorn.
    Mary Billingham, a Belgreen High School graduate, received an academic scholarship to the University of North Alabama for the 2007-08 school year. She was named most outstanding female student and was voted most likely to succeed. She was the Bryant-Gordon Class 1A winner and captain of the varsity basketball and softball teams. She was a member of Beta and Optimist clubs, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Faith Followers,-B-Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, annual staff, student advisory board to the superintendent and Envirothon and Scholars Bowl teams. She plans to major in social work and counseling. She is the daughter of Frank and Karen Billingham.
    Quinetta Phillips received a transfer student academic scholarship for the 2007-08 school year from the University of North Alabama. She attended Shelton State Community College, where she played basketball and was a member of Leaders of America and was on the dean's list. She is majoring in elementary education at UNA. She is the daughter of Alfred Phillips and Renena Hillman.
    Jessica Nicole Malone received an academic scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate of Russellville High School, she was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, art and Spanish clubs, Future Business Leaders of America, student council, annual staff, student booster club, softball team and chemistry club. She was Health Occupation Students of America chairwoman and a varsity cheerleader. She was in the top 10 percent of her class and received the academic excellence award. While at Northwest-Shoals, she will pursue a degree in pre-nursing. She was the daughter of Beth Jones and Terry Malone.
    Charles Clay Collins was awarded a performing arts scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate of Red Bay High School, he was a member of Leo Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Health Occupations Students of America, senior advisory committee, and Who's Who Among American High School Students. He was Mr. RBHS, senior president, football team captain and senior who's who. He will pursue a degree in commercial music. He is the son of Charles and Sherry Collins.
    Andrew Dale Fugate has received the Shoals Home Builders Association Scholarship through the Northwest-Shoals Community College Foundation. A graduate of Phil Campbell High School, he wad a member of the track team, Future Farmers of America, history club, Future Business Leaders of America and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. He is the son of Gorman Dale and Teresa Kaye Fugate.
    Casey Stockton received a Presidential Scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate of Russellville High School, he was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, newspaper and annual staffs, varsity football team, Student Booster Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions. While at Northwest-Shoals, he will pursue a degree in water and wastewater management and technology. He is the son of Tim and Lisa Stockton.
    Tasha Cochran received a cheerleader scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate Phil Campbell High School, she was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She was also a member of Future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, History Club, Media Club, Franklin County Junior Leadership and Franklin County Superintendent's Advisory Board. She was student council secretary and senior class treasurer. While at Northwest-Shoals, she will pursue a degree in elementary education. She is the daughter of Brent and Rhonda Cochran.
    Ethan Davis received the Bank Independent Scholarship through the Northwest-Shoals Community College Foundation. A graduate of Red Bay High School, he was a member of the varsity golf and basketball teams, A-B honor roll and National Honor Society. He was who's who most handsome and was in the top 10 in the senior class. While at Northwest-Shoals, he will pursue a degree in business finance. He is the son of Steve Davis and Cathy Mason.
    Marty Tyler Britton was awarded an academic scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate of Belgreen High School, he was a member of the varsity baseball and basketball teams, Future Business Leaders of America and Beta Club. He was vice president of the B Club, senior class historian and Boys State representative. While at Northwest-Shoals, he will pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. He is the son of Jimmy and Judy Britton.
    Jordan Dollar was awarded a salutatorian scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A senior at Russellville High School, she was senior class and Students Against Destructive Decisions treasurer, Mu Alpha Theta president, volleyball and basketball captain and student council representative. She was a member of Peer Outreach Winning Encouraging Reaching Goals, National Honor Society and Leadership Council. She is the daughter of Maj. John and Charlotte Dollar.
    Sacora Martinez was awarded a performing arts scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. A senior at Russellville High School, she was a member of National Honor Society, Christian Students United, student booster club, forensics and science clubs, show choir, chamber/ ensemble choir, Health Occupations Students of America, homecoming court and homecoming committee. She was student council representative, Future Business Leaders of America historian, newspaper and annual staffs sports editor and varsity cheerleader. While at Northwest-Shoals, she will pursue a degree in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Javier and Jane Martinez.
