PC wraps up summer play

PHIL CAMPBELL – The Phil Campbell varsity girls' basketball team took full advantage of the AHSAA rule that allows seven days of competition during the summer by playing 25 games with a 16-9 record.
"The Cold Springs game was a quality win for the summer, because Cold Springs has an awesome girls' program," said Phil Campbell coach Amy Moss.
This season, Phil Campbell returns senior guard Chasity Morgan (15.8 ppg) and sophomore post Caitlin Stancil (13.3 ppg), the team's top two scorers in 2006.
"Chasity is getting a lot of interest from several colleges, and Caitlin is a very deceiving player because she's only 5-6 or 5-7 and probably 110 pounds, and she plays inside most of the time," Moss said. "Jessica Taylor has really improved since last year, and she been the biggest surprise this summer and the most consistent player so far."
The Lady Bobcats' goal every season is advance to the sub-regions held at Wallace State in Hanceville. But standing in Phil Campbell's way are area champion Mars Hill, Red Bay and Cherokee.
"Two years ago we were runners-up in the area and traveled to Lexington. We won there and went to Wallace, and that's our goal this year," Moss said.
