The Russellville Police Department arrested a convicted sex offender for failure to register in Franklin County as a sex offender.
Richard Earl Blythe, also known as Richard McBroom, was taken into custody Wednesday morning, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.
"Blythe was convicted on aggravated sexual assault in Texas in 1989," Hargett said.
Blythe has been living in Franklin County for the past eight months, and had not registered with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, Hargett said.
According to Alabama Law, sex offenders must register with the sheriff's department within seven days of establishing residence.
Failure to register as a sex offender is a Class C felony, which is punishable with one year and one day to 10 years in prison upon conviction, according to the Alabama Criminal Code.
Blythe remains in the Russellville City Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
