Tharptown administrators looking forward to June

Many teachers and students are looking forward to the end of the school, but Tharptown High School is looking forward to the completion of their new high school, gym and athletic facilities.
"The playing area in the gym is complete, but the lobby and dressing rooms are not finished yet," Franklin County Superintendent Bill Moss said.
The bleachers for the gym have not arrived yet. The walls are up on the high school building and the roof is almost complete, Moss added.
"The new high school building will have 12 classrooms and the administrative offices," Moss added.
Once the roof is completed, the construction crews will begin with the building's interior. The athletic fields are also coming along well. The irrigation system is expected to be installed in all athletic fields by the end of the week.
"We should be able to start sodding the football and practice fields soon," Moss said.
The new faculties should be completed by no later than June 30, Moss added.
A population shift to the Northeast side of the county prompted the Franklin County School Board to build the new high school in an attempt to attract local students back to the county school district.
"There are a lot of students from that area going to school in Lawrence County," Moss said about the board's decision to convert the Tharptown Junior High School to Tharptown High School.
The Class of 2009 should be the first class to graduate from Tharptown High School.
