Probate candidates being interviewed

Governor Bob Riley is one step closer to naming Franklin County's new Probate Judge. The Governor's office has narrowed the list of candidates down, and said yesterday that interviews are scheduled to begin later this week.
Tara Hutchison, spokeswoman for the Governor's office, said that the Governor has settled on six candidates which will be interviewed to fill the Probate Judge slot left open with the sudden death of Mike Green, 54, on April 19.
John M. Davidson, Jerry Fancher, Connie Green, Wayne Hardy, Shane James, and Barry Moore are those who have been selected for the interview process. Interviews are scheduled to begin on Friday.
"Since we are beginning the interviews, I assume that we have stopped taking resumes but that does not mean that if we get another resume that it won't be looked at too," Hutchison added.
She said that there is still no timetable as to when the appointment will be named and there are no set qualifications for the position.
"The Governor will base his decision on who he thinks will be the best person for the job," Hutchison said.
After Green's death, the Franklin County Commission sent a resolution to Montgomery asking that his widow, Connie, be allowed to fill the Probate Judge slot for the next five years.
In addition to the resolution, a petition with approximately 3,000 signatures in support of Connie being named Probate Judge was sent to Montgomery to Riley's attention last week.
