Pre-schoolers at Little Tigers held their annual Trike-a-Thon Friday to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The preschool has held the event for the past nine years. Participants in the Trike-a-Thon raised funds for the internationally recognized hospital. These funds will go to help St. Jude in its ongoing battle against catastrophic childhood diseases.
"Our goal in holding this event is to help the children of the world who are stricken with diseases like cancer, AIDS, sickle cell disease, and other catastrophic illnesses," said Rhonda Miller, owner of Little Tigers.
The Trike-a-Thon is designed to expose pre-schoolers to using riding toys safely through a fun activity.
In order to participate in the event, the preschool asked that the children raise money through either a direct donation or by each lap they rode.
"We asked that the kids donate $5 to ride a bike, said Pre-School teacher Shelana Moore. "We raised $400 for St. Jude through this year's Trike-a-Thon."
St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital is internationally known for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, as well as other diseases. St. Jude's was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, and is based out of Memphis, Tenn.
Doctors across the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients to the hospital each year.
No family is ever asked to pay for treatments not covered by insurance, and families with no insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude's receives its financial support from fundraisers such as the Trike-a-Thon.
St. Jude's Children's Hospital is America's 3rd-largest health-care charity, with a business model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops.
