Shoe drive an inexpensive way to be of help

The decision to become a foster parent is one that will alter your life forever. Thousands of courageous men and women volunteer their time and lives in Alabama each year. Their efforts help enrich the lives of children who were on the brink of becoming social after thoughts.
Each year, thousands of children are cycles through the foster care program. Sadly, there's thousands more who are left out because of the lack of willing foster parents.
There are hundreds of ways you can help, without signing up as a foster parent. The Heart and Soul Program is one simple yet effective way.
The Franklin County Department of Human Services will be an official drop of for the Heart and Soul program, an effort to collect shoes for foster children across the state.
The Heart and Soul project's goal is to collect 6,000 pairs of shoes and place them on the steps of the state capitol to bring awareness to foster parenting.
The deadline to turn in shoes is Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. and interested parties may contact Kim Gaisser at 205-993-4420 or 256-668-0084, who has offered to pick up the shoes.
A pair of shoes are relatively inexpensive. Most of us even have a forgotten pair in the backs of our closets.
We encourage each of you to find at least one pair of shoes and contact Ms. Gaisser to drop them off at DHR.
There are thousands of children out there who need them worse that you ever will.
