The Walk-a-Mile for a Child coloring contest winners were announced yesterday at West Elementary School.
One hundred kindergarten and first-grade students participated in the contest to help bring awareness to child abuse in conjunction with Walk-a-Mile For a Child and Child Abuse Awareness Month.
"We want to be able to expand this project into the county schools next year," Kathy Archer, walk chairperson, said.
The first place winners received $15, the second place winners received $10 and the third place winners received $5. Bank Independent provided the prize money for the kindergarten winners and Edward Jones Investments in Russellville provided the prize money for the first grade winners.
The kindergarten winners are: first place, Lindsey Bolton; second place, Tanner James; and third place-a tie, Sierrah Sage and Hailey White. The first grade winners were: first place-a tie, Max Dominquez and Calen Duncan Bragwell; second place, Nancy Pascaul and third place, David Freemon.
This year's Franklin County Walk-a-Mile for a Child raised $5,000 with 35 walkers to help fund programs provided by Safeplace, Inc.
"Last year, Franklin County raised $3,200 with eight walkers, so we did really well this year," Archer said.
