Russellville loses one of its all time greats

Friday afternoon at Pinkard Funeral Home, Franklin County said goodbye to one of it great citizens.
Former mayor and councilman Marvin Wilson died Monday at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield at the tender age of 75. He was buried Friday.
Friends and colleagues remember Wilson as a man of great character who was a die-hard politician.
He loved everything about politics: Running for office, being in office, helping other people run for office and talking about policy and procedure.
Democrat or Republican, it didn't matter. Mr. Wilson would talk shop with anyone.
And while he will long be remembered for his service to the City of Russellville, his true legacy will be left in the lasting memories he left on its citizens.
Mr. Wilson was known far and wide for his big heart and his willingness to jump right in where his help may have been needed.
He was known as a no questions asked kind of guy: Someone who would be the first to come running when someone asked for assistance.
He's probably even better known for offering help before most people had the chance to ask for it.
There's nothing more honorable than the willingness to serve your community and holding an office honorably. From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Marvin Wilson did just that. He served the city with grace and left a legacy that is still apparent today, some 19 years later.
Mr. Wilson will be missed by the entire community.
