Lola Faye Copeland, age 81, of Red Bay, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Red Bay Hospital.
She was born December 3, 1925, in Itawamba County, MS, to James T. and Doxie Ann Hall Page. She was a bookkeeper and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Copeland; a son, Mike Copeland; and her parents.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2007, at First Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Hill and Bro. Jerry Swimmer officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were John Williams, Ralph Winchester, Lowell Humphres and Eucellis Underwood.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by a son, John Copeland of Red Bay; a daughter, Janie Cromeans and husband John, of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Jay Copeland of Gainesville, FL, Catherine Cromeans, John Cromeans III, and Nicole Roberson and husband Bradley, all of Oxford, MS, and Matt Copeland and wife Whitney, of Golden, MS; and one great-grandchild, Riley Roberson of Oxford, MS.
Bertha Fuller-Johnson

Bertha Ford Smith Fuller-Johnson of Haleyville passed away at her residence Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ninth Avenue Church of Christ with Roger Burdge and Wiley Dean officiating. Interment will be in the Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Bertha was born October 27, 1923 in Rockwood, AL. She graduated from Russellville High School in 1941, valedictorian of her class. She is survived by her granddaughter, Geana Watson Mitchell, grandson Stan Watson, Jr., son-in-law Stan Watson, Sr.; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Fuller Watson and Sarah Brett Mitchell; one sister, Ila Hill; three step-children, Elaine Sac, Karen Byrne and Joe Johnson; and in-laws Richard and Onease Fuller. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe A. Fuller and Lester Johnson; her daughter, Linda Fuller Watson; her parents, Henry and Carrie Smith; three brothers, Ollie Smith, Raymond Smith and Barney Smith; and two sisters, Velma Kelly and Ruth Young.
Bertha was President/CEO of Newburg Road Lumber Company and a successful businesswoman for many years. She was the Business and Professional Women's club "Business Woman of the Year" in 1980. She was also the very first woman to ever serve on the Haleyville City council from 1992-96. Other organizations include: a member of the Ninth Avenue Church of Christ for 66 years, the Alabama Forestry Association, Business and Professional Women's club, Haleyville Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Alabama Mental Health Board, and the Haleyville Historical Society. In addition, she served on the Governor's Advisory Board under Governor Guy Hunt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ninth Avenue Church of Christ youth fund.
Roy G. McDowell

Roy Gresham McDowell, age 89, of Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007.
Mr. McDowell was a decorated World War II Army Corporal serving with the 513th Fighter Squadron, 406th Fighter Group. He fought in the Normandy Air Offensive Europe, Northern France, Central Europe, and Ardennes Rhineland. His decorations and citations are: Distinguished Unit Badge W 1 Oak Leaf Cluster Go 9 HQ 9th, WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star and 1 Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal AR, Lapel Button, ASR Score-91. Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Senkbeil McDowell; his parents, Maxie Pierce McDowell and Lucy Pilgrim McDowell; and two brothers, William and James McDowell.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2007, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. Interment was in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Mr. McDowell is survived by a daughter, Wanda Welch of Spruce Pine; a sister, Sara Jo Hammock of Spruce Pine; two brothers, Robert R.P. McDowell and wife Louise, of Muscle Shoals, and Thomas McDowell and wife Doris, of Spruce Pine; a sister-in-law, Louise McDowell of Florence; four grandchildren, Pam Jones and husband Mark, of Hattiesburg, MS, Tammy Miller and husband Terry, of Spartanburg, SC, Paula Walker and husband Chuck, of Cantonment, FL, and Brian Welch and wife Jennifer, of Checotah, OK; twelve great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Brian, Brannon and Devan Miller, Brittany, Shani, Lacie, Chip and Will Walker, and Kelly and Tori Welch; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Sandra Yeager

Sandra Shelnutt Yeager, age 53, formerly of Phil Campbell, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007, at her residence in Hartselle.
Sandra began her life in Phil Campbell. She was born March 21, 1954 and spent most of her childhood with her mother, Mary, her step-father Raymond, and her three sisters, Carolyn, Wanda and Annette. Sandra, her mother, and her three sisters have remained close, even until her death. Sandra was always so full of life. She loved antiquing, garage sales, and shoe shopping, just to name a few. As Sandra grew older, she remained close to her family in Phil Campbell. Sandra moved to Hartselle many years ago. She shares one son, Chris, with her ex-husband Larry. Chris and Deonza's children, Zach and Brittany, were the love of her life. The other love of her life was her husband, Charley. Sandra truly loved Charley. He was her soul mate. Sandra also thought very highly of Von and Margaret, known to most as "Pop and Granny." Sandra had three dogs, Blackjack, Gypsy, and Augie. She thought of the dogs as her "children." Sandra was previously a hairdresser and was most recently a homemaker. She had more determination than anyone I have ever met. Even as she fought death, she was very strong-minded. Sandra was one of the strongest people, both physically and mentally, that I have met. She lost the battle with cancer on Thursday, March 29, 2007. She died at home surrounded by those who loved her. I consider it a true honor to be a part of her life. Sandra will truly be missed by all who knew her and loved her. A special thanks to Hospice of the Valley.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at New Center Baptist Church in Hartselle with Rev. Harold Brown and Rev. Curtis Taylor officiating. Interment was in New Center Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry McCurry, Steven Parker, Rob Easterling, Larry Tanner, Rickey Marchman and Jason Easterling.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Charley V. Yeager of Hartselle; a son, Chris Tanner and wife Deonza, of Falkville; her mother, Mary Lou Miller of Russellville; her step-father, Talton Ray Miller of Russellville; three sisters, Carolyn Parker of Phil Campbell, Wanda Miller of Russellville, and Annette Davidson of Madison; and two grandchildren, Zach and Brittany Tanner.
