Council makes chief picks

The Phil Campbell city council took care of several personnel matters at Tuesday night's regular meeting, appointing a police chief, fire chief, city clerk and city attorney.
The council reappointed Merrill Potter as police chief and Ann Bragwell as city clerk. Steve Bell, who lost in the mayoral election, was appointed fire chief. The council also reappointed Roger Bedford as city attorney.
New mayor Jerry Mays said he was very pleased with the personnel decisions.
Mays was particularly glad to have Bell on board.
In other business, the council voted to honor the city's contract with the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce that runs through September of 2005.
The council also voted to send Bragwell to a magistrate school class in December in Tuscaloosa.
In other business, Mays informed the council that Amanda Galloway had requested use of the Community Center each Thursday night for a couple of hours to teach dance lessons. The council passed a motion to offer use of the center to Galloway for the standard fee of a $50 deposit, $25 per night, and $1 per person.
The council also voted to research the possibilities of either purchasing a new pressure washer for the city or repairing the one currently in use.
Finally, the council passed a motion to pay the bills.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the council will take place on Tuesday, November 2.
