Police investigate robberies

By By Georgia E. Frye / Staff writer
The Meridian Police Department is investigating a strong armed robbery and an attempted strong armed robbery that occurred within 30 minutes of each another Saturday night at Eastern Gardens Apartments.
Lt. Dean Harper of the Meridian Police Department said three women, aged 15 to 20, approached a woman at Bonita Lakes Mall at about 9:30 p.m. and asked for a ride to Eastern Gardens.
When the lady dropped them off, one of the girls assaulted the lady while another stole her purse.
Harper said a report also was filed after three women, aged 15 to 20, asked a lady for a ride to Eastern Gardens from Bonita Lakes Mall at about 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Harper said, however, the driver of the car was able to get away before her purse was stolen.
Harper said he believes the incidents are related. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 527-8706.
