A Missouri contractor and local subcontractors on Wednesday began picking up debris left by Hurricane Ivan and city officials reminded residents that the largest debris items will be picked up first.
Poor Boy Tree Service of Fair Play, Mo., was hired by the city council last week to clear an estimated 4,167 tons of tree limbs, leaves and other items. Four crews, three of them local subcontractors, will work in the city's four quadrants, a city spokesman said. Crews may move in and out of neighborhoods as needed to focus on the places with the most debris.
Poor Boy will make two sweeps through the entire city, the spokesman said. Because of the different types of equipment needed, the largest debris items will be removed during the first sweep and the smaller piles of debris will be removed during the second sweep.
Because of this process, residents may see a clean-up truck drive by their pile without picking it up or may come home to find that a neighbor's debris has been removed while theirs has not. All debris will be picked up within the 45 working day time limit, the spokesman said.
