Graveside services for William E. "Bill" Burt will be held today at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Raley officiating. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burt of Meridian, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Meridian Community Living Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna Burt of Meridian; children, Andy Burt and his wife, Melissa, of Madison, Ala., and Kristi Thompson and her husband, Tony, of Meridian; grandchildren, Ty Thompson and Elah Thompson, both of Meridian; sisters, P.I. Price and her husband, Algene, of Meridian, Arata Carter of Mobile, Ala. and Frances Garrett of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and a brother, Oscar Burt and his wife, Duchess, of Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar C. Burt and Vernie Burt; and a sister, Bobby Jean Reed.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Pallbearers will be Tony Thompson, Terry Morgan, Marty Price, Tommy Price, Dennis Richie and Eddie Copeland.
Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
NEWTON Services for Emma Lucille Bounds Brantley will be held today at 1 p.m. at Newton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Newton Masonic Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Brantley, 88, of Newton, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Carol Redmond Personal Care Center. She was the retired co-owner of Jitney Jungle Food Store. She was born in Newton County. Her life centered around faith, family and friends. She was an active member of the Newton First Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Newton Music Club and she was a proud graduate of Clarke College. Needlepoint was her passion, as was walking, reading, traveling, playing bridge and talking about children and grandchildren. They meant the world to her, and she was everything to them. Indeed, a tapestry of love.
Survivors include her daughters, Dr. Anne Wright of Bethesda, Md., and Cindy Brantley of Pascagoula; grandchildren, Andrew Wright, Christina Wright and Rachel Wright; brothers, Lewis and Tommy; sisters, Joyce and Doris; and a son-in-law, Julian Wright.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ethel Holladay Bounds; her husband, Almond Loree "Billy" Brantley; brothers, Robert, Winfred, Sam, Dan and Harold Bounds.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Wright, Christina Wright, Rachael Wright, Sam Bounds, David Hollingsworth, David Hollingsworth Jr. and Phil Lang.
Visitation will be today 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
SEBASTOPOL Services for Merle Leach will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Milling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Leach, 93, of Morton, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at the Mississippi Care Center in Morton. She will be remembered as one who enjoyed being with her family, quilting and working in her flower beds.
Survivors include her sons, Petty Leach and his wife, Carol, of Sebastopol, Charlie Leach and his wife, Martha, of Conehatta and Jim Leach and his wife, Gloria, of McCool; daughters, Tincy Rhodes of Pearl and Jean Jones and her husband, Jim, of Union; brothers, Wright Petty and Clyde Petty, both of Harperville; grandchildren, Jeannie Vance, Jimmy Jones, Donna Bishop, Judy Moulds, Vicci Morgan, Patricia Peagler, Glenn Leach, Todd Leach, Cindy Leach, Marc Leach, Jennifer Alford and Maria McLeod; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and special care givers at the Mississippi Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Leach; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Petty; brothers, Woods Petty, Glenn Petty and Oren Petty; sisters, Iva Petty, Eva Langford and Bertha Leach; a son-in-law, Buddy Rhodes; a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services for Evelyn Godwin will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Buckatunna Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Irby officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Godwin, 79, of Meridian, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Guardian Angel Hospice.
Survivors include her sons, Terry Godwin and his wife, Katherine, and Danny Godwin, all of Meridian; a sister, Patty Ann Godwin of Jackson; a granddaughter, Sherry McCartney and her husband, Joseph, of Tennessee; a great-granddaughter, Ally McCartney of Tennessee; brothers, Charles Raley and his wife, Margaret, of Grand Bay, Ala., Hubert Raley and his wife, Betty, of Byhalia, Bill Raley and his wife, Judy, of Waynesville, N.C., Roy Raley and his wife, Jean, of Meridian, and Jack Raley and his wife, Marie, of Symsonia, Ky.; sisters, Susie Shirley and her husband, Leon, of Shubuta and Mary Reeves and her husband, Al, of Quitman.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, L.J., Jamie, Cecil, Edwin, Arthur and Franklin.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services for Patricia Moffett Creel will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Albert Creel and Derrick Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in the Causeyville Community.
Mrs. Creel, 57, of Causeyville, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She worked for 18 years at Rush Foundation Hospital in the X-ray and physical therapy departments.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse Creel of Causeyville; children, Byron Moffett and his wife, Lona, and Gavin Moffett, all of Causeyville, Dewayne Creel of Bailey, Sammy Creel and his wife, Stephanie, of Los Angeles, Michael Creel and his wife, Angela, of Bailey and Johnny Creel of Philadelphia; a grandson, Christopher Moffett; seven step-grandchildren; and a special friend, Diane Murphy of Causeyville.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, A.D. Moffett.
Pallbearers will be Darron Martin, Glenn Moffett, Jerry Glenn Tucker, James Farrior, R.C. McCary, Thomas Lynn Williams, Wallace Murphy and Norman Martin.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
DEKALB Arrangements were incomplete at E.E. McDonald Funeral Home for Willie "Doc" Roberts, 75, of Meridian, who died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Guardian Angel Hospice in Marion.
